This presentation has three main aims:

• Present a reappraisal of the mechanisms which made the building of a so called “First Global Age” possible, based on the action of selforganized networks of co-operators, and on the analysis of the Portuguese case

• Empirically analyze the main theoretical assumptions of TECT program, focusing on the historical phenomenon of the Portuguese Overseas Expansion (15th-18th Century)

• Discuss how these conceptual and theoretical frameworks enable us to rethink history
